blackout update
Aug. 14th, 2003 05:23 pm... info I've gleaned from having relatives scattered throughtout the Northeast:
- Montreal, contrary to some reports, was not affected. Most of Quebec gets its power from Hydro-Quebec generators in northern Quebec, so Niagara Mohawk's power outage in theory shouldn't affect the majority of Quebec.
- Boston, contrary to some reports, appears to be unaffected... as far as I know, most of New England gets its power from sources further east, not Niagara Mohawk.
- a few communities in Vermont briefly lost power, but were restored... the major Vermont utilities report that all is well with their generators. upstate NY (Clinton and Franklin counties... Plattsburgh, Glens Falls, etc) report some power outages as well.
anyone affected, be safe.
