... yes, [livejournal.com profile] thothmeister and [livejournal.com profile] rdcf *that* Mikey...

... and go figure, my "now playing" song is appropriate for the story, and it came up randomly. ANYway...

... i seem to have inherited a form of the Mikey Effect. the Mikey Effect is named after an old friend of mine and [livejournal.com profile] thothmeister's... i've worked with him my current job as well as my previous job.

it was at the previous job that the Mikey Effect manifested itself. Mike was network administrator for 200+ users, mostly in one building, he had the position for 5-6 years.

when Mike was in the building, the network ran beautifully. the very second Mike left the building, let the server meltdowns begin. almost every major system crash happened when he was off-site... it didn't matter whether he was out of the country or next door at Starbucks.

so either Mikey was very good at pre-arranging server crashes, or he carried with him the Mikey Effect.

... which i seem to have inherited... the last two times i've left Montreal for longer than a day or two, weird shit happens nearby! April 20, a 5.2 earthquake hits upstate NY and rattles Montreal... the day before i come back from Rox's.

and yesterday, most of the northeast gets a weird smoky haze from forest fires. as this is happening... i'm on my way home from Rox's.

so either this effect is telling me not to leave Montreal, or not to come back if I do!!

Same thing happens with the weather in NC when I leave. Shortly after moving to Chicago, the area where I had lived (and my parents still do) was ravaged by Hurricane Fran - the single worst hurricane to hit the area *ever* (we're pretty far inland). Shortly after moving to Boston, they got hit with Floyd. Floyd wasn't too bad. It was the winter where they paid the true price. My first winter in MA saw my home town get the single worst dumping of snow in a single storm *ever*. I can't even remember how many feet they got, but I remember people saying even New England would have had a hard time dealing with that much snow in a single storm. 1) When talking about snow in NC (the area where I grew up anyway), you never use the term "feet". 2) My nephews were out of school for 2 1/2 weeks. My sister begged me to move back and stay lest frogs begin falling from the sky.

I learned the sky was colored by the fires only today... I was wondering why the sky seemed like it was coated with LA smog - now I know!

the smoke took that long to drift to inhabited areas... it's taking a vacation in the Maritimes next. ;)
