... finished the book. for the benefit of those of you that haven't, I'll be making use of the lj-cut to spoiler-proof this post. sooooo...

... Sirius?? I really thought it was going to be a Weasley (until Arthur survived his attack)... the Weasley family was so prominent in this one that I was sure we were being setting up for one of them to die. I didn't really expect her to leave Harry "alone" again.

as for the book in general... it was good, but it didn't blow me away. I didn't have any "holy shit!" moments where I was completely taken unawares. a lot happened, and heaven knows a lot is going to in Year 6 and 7, but I didn't have any moments that blew me away.

Really? I had all sorts of "holy shit!" moments. From the correct guess that Mrs. Figg would be a Squib assigned to watch over Harry, to Firenze being the new Divination prof, to Neville and Ginny getting all kinds of kick-ass, it was a wild ride.

I guess I'm just jaded and it takes more to "holy shit" me. ;) though granted, kick-ass Neville and Ginny were pretty cool.

Azkaban is still my favorite, but this one was probably #2. Everything from page 610-700 made me go 'holy shit' and then some.

I had the same reaction about Sirius. When I heard 'major charcter', I was expecting Hagrid or Dumbledore(or God forbid, McGonnagal, after she was attacked). Harry ought to attach himself to Lupin, now. After all, if not for him he'd probably have no soul.

good point about Lupin... he's certainly not lacking for parental-type figures at this point, that's for sure.
