strangeanimal... the Krispy Kreme near here opened today... apparently there were huge lineups. they're predicting this could be KK's biggest opening day ever (the current record-holder is the first Toronto store a few years ago). we haven't been yet, but we shall. oh yes, we shall.
but of course, I managed recently to shmooze my co-workers and score some free KKs at the same time a few days ago... Krispy Kreme had a deal with the Sprint stores where if you brought in a used cel phone for Project Connect (which gives cell phones to women in abuse shelters, etc, since any functional cel phone, even if not connected to a service, is required by law to be able to reach 911), you got a free dozen donuts.
so I dashed out of the office (luckily the Sprint store was two blocks away), got me some donuts, and came back. this was not a veiled attempt to win my coworkers' favor... it was a blatant attempt. hey, as long as it works.

Krispy Kreme says its first Massachusetts outlet in Boston sold 73-thousand dollars worth of doughnuts on it opening-day on Tuesday.
That topped the 71-thousand dollars set in December 2001 at Krispy Kreme's first Canadian outlet on its opening day. (CP)
