yeah, I know I haven't been posting much
Jul. 4th, 2003 04:21 pm... a well-needed long weekend. Rox is gearing up for the final in the accounting course she's been taking, and we're smack in the middle of crazy-ass busy time at work, which thankfully should finish by the end of July.
gotta say, that's the good thing about working for a textbook publisher... our busy periods are right before the semesters, for the most part. it must make it a lot easier for the bosses to plan and schedule, knowing that their busy periods rarely vary, except for the quantity of work.
so generally, once August rolls around, things calm down around work a lot... it gets busy again (but not as much) in October and November for the January semester, and then it's back down to a low buzz the rest of the time, with mostly books ordered by schools/profs who like to avoid the rush.
which is good, as far as I'm concerned... the first few weeks of down time is clean-up... literally. by the end of the rush, there are book guts all over the place. once those are filed or tossed, everybody straightens up their paperwork, and gets on with the rest of the year.
what's also good is that the company offers a ton of in-house free courses for its employees... Microsoft Office software, Quark XPress, etc. it'll be good to have "classroom learning" for a lot of the software I know... most of my skils were either picked up at work, or self-taught.
but for now, it feels good to not be surrounded by books. wait a sec, I'm sitting in our computer room. an entire wall is lined by bookcases. d'oh!!
