a welcome, and a movie review
Jul. 4th, 2003 04:46 pm... a hearty wilkommen, bienvenue to
ayakoholic, who has joined the happy troupe of LJers... uhhh, LJing. and I've met him, so I can confirm that he is, indeed, rather cool.
... and now to the movie review... Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, starring Your Next Governor of California, Ah-nuldt Schwarzenegger.
this movie is one hell of a mixed bag... but overall I came away fairly satisfied. let's compare it to I and II...
... funnier than either previous movie. they were able to, among other things, poke fun at some of the now-iconic scenes in the Terminator series... indeed, the jokes are much funnier I'm sure if you've seen the others.
... no Linda Hamilton or Edward Furlong. on paper, this is bad. Claire Danes seemed like the miscast from hell in the beginning, but grew on me some by the end. Nick Stahl wasn't quite up there with Furlong, but did the role well... I haven't seen Furlong in much lately, so I don't know how he would have played the adult John.
... Kristanna Loken as the T-X. making her a blond ass-kicking babe added nothing for me... they could've just as easily gone with their original choice (Joanie "Chyna" Laurer) for all the impact actual acting had on the role.
... the plot. for a Terminator movie, fairly complex (though not without a few holes and you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me moments.
... the action... way less violent than I or II, a lot more gadgets getting wiped out than people.
... overall, if you liked the first two, you should like (not love) this one. call it a matinee-price worthy movie.
