... i'm a happy camper tonight. ducked out to the nearby magazine store to see what's new a little earlier... said magazine store also sells pre-viewed VHS tapes, the usual paperback book rack, and often sells hardcovers/coffee-table books at deep discount.
the selection obviously varies wildly from week to week... they'll have a Pierre Trudeau biography one week and Chyna's autobiography a few weeks later. but i've found a few gems... i would've bought
I Am Spock by Leonard Nimoy in hardcover today (for 7 bucks! Canadian!!) if I didn't already have it in paperback.
anyway, i found a two-book set i'll definitely be cracking open sooner than soon...
Last Train To Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley and
Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick.
i had never heard of the books, but the reviews seem to rave about them... and being the Elvist that i am, there's no way i could pass these books up for less than $8 a pop. in a boxed set (well, a slipcase), yet. so i didn't.
of course, Elvis seems to be popping up all around me these days... there was an Elvis sketch on
Whose Line is It Anyway? earlier tonight, and the papers here are all over the new book
Schmelvis: In Search Of Elvis Presley's Jewish Roots, which also looks like an interesting book.
wow, one more link and Amazon should send me royalties. ;)
