... and no, that's not me tooting my own horn, that's me discovering a quirk in my, well, body, that's been having an impact on my 10k training.

i've always had a knack for quick recoveries... cuts/bruises heal up quickly, colds last only a day or two, and i can get back to a resting heart rate really quickly after getting it up to a "working rate".

it's this little quirk that, i've discovered, is causing me problems. when i do long runs, running whatever distance at a steady pace, without stopping, i do great... no bad aches, no fatigue beyond the usual, and i'm ready to go again fairly soon after we stop.

but when we do repeated short runs in training, with walking/stopping breaks inbetween... i get injured. we did 400m runs with breaks today... my left knee has been so sore since that i have trouble going down flights of stairs. and the past few times we've done short runs, i've ended up hobbling from one thing or another.

so the trainer and i figured that indeed, my muscles recover and cool down too fast, and starting up after a few minutes is too much of a shock, thus the various aches and pains.

so for any short-run training, i'm pretty much going to have to keep moving at a regular pace just to keep my muscles warm. but on the plus side, this shouldn't affect the actual race for me, since it's, of course, running 10k presumably without stopping.

presumably. ;)
