Books Read in '05
Feb. 26th, 2005 08:53 pm... mostly a post for myself to keep track, I never counted how many books I read in a year before but I figured, hey why not.
1. Le Comte de Monte-Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. In French. Two volumes. Took for-fucking-ever. Great book though... definitely epic. Sometimes you wonder where the sideplots are going, but Dumas manages to tie them together in the end. I'd recommend a good translation, but I've never actually read it in English.
2. The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Green by Joshua Braff. AKA Zach Braff's brother. A coming-of-age story, if you will... it's interesting to read stories where a young Jewish kid is the narrator, not written by Mordecai Richler. Good book, though I prefer Richler. ;)
3. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Elvis by Frank Coffey. Bought it for a buck, basically for shits and giggles. Great book for Elvis trivia, worth adding to an Elvis fan's library.
4. Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama. Obama has quite the life story... he packed in more life experience before 30 than some people do their entire lives.
5. The Great Unraveling: Losing Our Way in the New Century by Paul Krugman. Gotta love angry lefties who back up their anger with sound economic theory. Makes me wish I had taken more Econ classes.
6. Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. Malcolm Gladwell fucking rocks. If you haven't read his books, read 'em.
7. A Long Way From Home by Tom Brokaw. Brokaw writes about growing up in South Dakota. He's very frank, admitting that he basically dicked around for a few years in college before getting his shit together.
8. Brinkley's Beat by David Brinkley. I'm on a network anchor roll. In progress.

Date: 2005-02-28 02:19 pm (UTC)Hey, why not? This might be the push I need to keep reading and maybe even read some non-fiction stuff!
Shall there be a prize of some sort at the end for the winner?
