Feb. 7th, 2002 10:57 pm... ah, didn't feel like adding a subject line.
... interesting day at work today. one of my cow-orkers has, an um, odd sense of humor. most of the time we gell ok, and she can actually be rather sweet at times. other times, she acts like a spoiled twelve-year-old, and wonders why, despite her skills and brains, nobody takes her seriously.
so at one point, a few of us on my team are discussing that case in the news where the guy called 911 and said his 7-year-old had committed suicide when in reality the kid had been severely beaten for years.
we were discussing how people who beat or molest kids usually get some "jailhouse justice" in prison, and we all pretty much agreed that they're scum.
then, my cow-orker pipes in with "yeah, it's pretty bad when people lose control of themselves, eh?"... referring of course to the xmas eve incident.
i was like "excuse me?" with a look on my face that said "you'd better not be going where i think you are"... she said, with a smirk "yeah, some people really should control themselves."
now, by itself, that comment means she's just ragging on me, my team busts each other's chops all day. but it's all in fun, and we stop before feelings get hurt, and we don't cross lines.
but in context of the conversation... i mean geez. one minute we're talking child molesters who can't control themselves, next minute she's (pardon the pun) throwing me into the mix.
so i basically quietly tore her a new one... i told her that jokes are one thing, but even insinuating that someone's angry gesture has anything to do with fucking child molestation, in the middle of an office, is pretty fucking shitty judgement on her part, and that she should grow up and start taking herself a little more seriously.
she didn't say a thing... i don't think she could've given a comeback if she'd wanted to.
later on, she accused me of overreacting, that she doesn't fly off the handle when we rag on her for being spoiled... i basically told her that if she can compare what we said to her to what she said to me, that we might as well just not say anything, and i walked off.
gotta love those awkward work situations, huh?
... and yay, we have a team lunch tomorrow. hide the sharp utensils. ;)
... i miss
rdcf.
... off to bed. 'night, y'all.
