pseudo-friday five
May. 3rd, 2002 06:33 pmsince apparently there isn't a "real" one this week...
1. What do you like to read? What genres do you read the most? Why?
I'm a newspaper guy first and foremostly... must be that journalism degree showing through. ;) As for books, I tend to veer toward non-fiction and biographies. I used to read a fair amount of sci-fi and fantasy but not so much now.
2. Where do you like to read? Describe your favorite reading nook.
The bathroom. ;) Probably in bed, propped up with a few pillows. Though I do tend to read a lot on the bus to/from work (to/from anywhere else, really).
3. What's your favorite book or author? Why? When did you first discover this treasure? If you selected an author, what title would you recommend I read first?
All The President's Men. I probably first read it in college... my father's tastes also leaned towards the historical non-fiction books, so I would end up reading someof the books he would have lying around... this one appealed to my inner j-schooler at first. I ended up liking it because the tale is completely engrossing both from a historical and from a "how the story got from A to Z" point of view.
4. Do you like books on tape (or CD)? Why or why not? What's your favorite rendition, if any? If you don't like audio books, when would you consider listening to one? If it was read by a favorite actor or if it was adapted from a favorite text?
Not so much... I like imagining the voice myself. Also, I can read at my own pace (I read very quickly), go back to an earlier point (which I do often) with a book... can't easily do either with a tape or CD.
5. Are e-books the wave of the future? Have you read any? Which one? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?
Haven't read any. I think they'll find a solid niche among travelers, as a way to carry a lot of reading material without the extra weight, as it were. I can't see them ever taking over from print though... the tactile pleasure of curling up with a good book shouldn't ever be taken away.
