a question for my dear friends... what file-sharing/p2p software are you currently using, and how do you like it?

i used to use Napster (didn't we all?), but we all know what happened there. i've been on Morpheus ever since, but their software and service has gone down the crapper to the point where i uninstalled Morpheus completely earlier today.

i've been looking into KaZaA, but i've been reading horror stories about shareware/viruses and the like.

i have Ad Aware running to track/zap spyware and McAfee for anti-virus if that helps...

... basically, what do you all recommend?

I use WinMX. I've seen some complaints about it, but it rocks my world. I never have a problem finding what I want, it has an easy to use interface, and NO SPYWARE!

Now, if you're digging Kazaa/Morpheus (from what I know, same servers, very similiar programs), you'll want to check out Kazaa Lite. It's Kazaa without the spyware. I haven't used it much, but I've heard good things.

Kazaa Lite is on my shortlist... haven't heard much about WinMX, i'll have to scope it out...

WinMX reminds me quite a bit of Napster, which is part of the reason I like it so much. Ah, those were the days...

Ah, for the innocence of those days, when stealing was so easy... ;)

I used Audiogalaxy for awhile, then uninstalled it, considered both Kazaa and Kazaa Lite, and decided on regular Kazaa without the spyware because it's very similar to Napster. Regular Kazaa has a checklist prior to installation asking if you want to be hooked up to their affiliates (aka the spyware people) -- they also give you the option of having it run immediately as you go online (which I don't -- I'll use it when I want, thank you). So far I haven't had any problems with viruses and such -- I've also got McAfee and Norton on my 'puter -- nor have I had weird spam.

The difference? A hell of a lot more choices on Kazaa, and the quality rocks! A lot of the songs I wanted to get on Audiogalaxy were either "not available" or not listed on the server. I haven't had any problems as such with Kazaa.

:)

I ended up choosing Kazaa Lite. The interface is a lot like Morpheus.

I decided that rather than choosing a program with spyware in it to be removed or not chosen, better a program that had none to begin with.
