well gee, this should be fun...
Jun. 21st, 2002 07:36 pm... the good news is, i'll get an extra week off this summer without using up any vacation days. the bad news is, i'll be using it to recover from minor surgery!
minor surgery, before you get all worried.
it turns out, as discovered during the physical i took for immigration earlier this week, that i have a hernia. i had been experiencing some (ok, here comes the TMI part) groin (there, you all can look now) pain for a while, but i had chalked it up to a possible (skip the next word if you want) groin (there) pull, since i've been running for the past few months.
of course, my chalking was wrong, as two doctors have confirmed this week. soooooo, i get to see a specialist next week and schedule the surgery. it's outpatient surgery... i'll be there for 3-4 hours, and then home to basically not overexert myself for a week. and then after that, i'll probably be under orders to avoid heavy lifting, strenuous physical activity, etc, but i'll be able to live my "normal" existence otherwise.
whee. i am not looking forward to being laid up for a week, and being treated like a porcelain doll for heaven knows how long after. don't get me wrong, i'm thankful that this is a minor procedure as surgeries go. but i'm not terribly stoked at the whole prospect.
hopefully they can schedule it ASAP, so i can get it out of the damn way.
