... had part 2 of my root canal today. definitely more painful than the first part... had to pop an Aleve and rub some ice against my cheek to keep the pain manageable for the first few hours. it's a little tender now (9 hours later), but nothing i can't handle... had semi-soft food for lunch, will have something light on the chewing factor for dinner.

... [livejournal.com profile] rdcf is just the sweetest thing. in our nightly call last night, we mostly talked about what was going on in her world (examples can be found in her LJ).

while i was out walking the dog before bed, i was left a voice-mail message from Rox, who felt all sad and guilty because she thought she had talked about her stuff too much and didn't comfort me about my upcoming root canal... i hadn't even noticed, but she had. so she called back to tell me. is she a sweetie or what? :)

... yup, so now i have my entry visa to the US. so now the fun starts... figuring out what stuff is moving and what stuff is going to charity (or to the dump), getting boxes, figuring out a strategy to pack everything, setting up my change-of-address info when we have our new address, and of course giving my notice at work.

and finding a new home for the dog. unfortunately, it's not going to be feasible for her to move with me... i feel bad enough living here with her, that i don't have enough time/space for a dog of her age and activity level, and it would probably be worse after the move, with two people working and the possibility of not having much access to a place for the dog to exercise.

so i'll be finding her a new home over the next while. it'll hurt like hell, but it'll be better for both me and the dog... having a dog is a time and money and emotional drain. worth it most of the time, but at times it's another drop in a full bucket. as for the dog, i'll do my best to find her a home where she'll have more companionship, more space, more exercise... it'll be better for her too.

... happier dog-related stuff: i saw a 6-month old puppy that was almost my dog's twin earlier today!! other than the eyes (the puppy's were blue, my dog has one blue one brown) and the coloring (black/white vs. black/white/tan), the puppy was the spitting image of mine as a pup. and a similar personality too. complete time warp.

Ouch. Giving Souka a new home... :( I couldn't even imagine giving up my cats. I definitely don't envy this.

Ideally, SO would like to have only Missy, only because Ember's a very active, outdoorsy kind of gal, and he usually doesn't have time to take either of them out on long walks, etc. They're such good girlz, too...*sigh*. I'd take Ember in a second if I could keep her at my mom's, but since that's been vetoed more than once...thing is, he can't just give Ember away to anybody, re her background. And there's no way either of us would leave her in One Of Those Awful Doggy Places, so...

...speaking of which, she's lying on both my feet as I'm typing this :)
