1. Where were you when you heard about the attacks on the Pentagon and WTC?
at work... we first heard about it on the radio, then someone turned the TVs we have on the floor (usually used for video presentations etc.) to the news.

2. What country/group did you suspect immediately?
some general Middle Eastern terrorist thing, though in the back of my head I had an inkling it was a McVeigh-type inside job.

3. Who were you with? How did you react?
co-workers. and not well... my sister/brother-in-law/nephew/niece live about 1/2 hour from NYC and my parents were visiting them. i had no idea where they were at the time of the attacks, all I knew was that nobody was answering their phone and nobody had called me. so i was pretty much freaking out.

4. Who did you call first?
my sister. repeatedly.

5. What did you do the rest of the day?
work closed down at about 1pm since the markets had closed, so I went home... one of my co-workers was nice enough to stay with me until I heard from my sister (at about 2pm), since leaving me alone was probably not a great idea at that point. that evening, I watched the coverage with one of my friends who had no family in town... again, didn't feel like being alone.

6. Did you have any friends or family killed in the attacks?
thankfully no. my sister and my folks were shopping in a suburban mall far from the city when it happened... my brother-in-law was driving to Newark airport to catch a flight. he didn't even bother going all the way to the airport, he headed right back home.

7. Do you think 9-11 should be a holiday?
no. make it like Remembrance Day or Veterans' Day with wreaths, speeches, ceremonies, whichever... making it a day off in late summer would take away from remembering what happened. they never made December 7th a holiday.

8. Do you think even a % of the money donated really made it to the families?
I hope so, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

9. Did you feel an increased sense of patriotism? Did it last?
I'm Canadian, so no. I felt sad for the people who lost loved ones, but I would've done that for any disaster of that magnitude.

10. Have you flown since the attacks? How soon did you fly again?
haven't yet, but I rarely flew before then anyway. I'd probably be a little leery about flying, but not to the point of refusing to.

11. Have you been to ground zero?
I was in NYC Easter weekend with [livejournal.com profile] rdcf, but we didn't make it to the site... saw the light beams though.

12. At what point did it really sink in?
that night, when the news would be talking to crowds of people who were missing their loved ones... they looked so completely shell-shocked that the magnitude of everything hit me.
