this used to be my playground. sort of.

... called in sick from work today... woke up with a really bad sinus headache and figured a few hours' nap would be a good idea. so I did.

once I got (sort of) going today, I ran a few errands. ended up swinging past the journalism department at Concordia my alma mater. sort of.

y'see, the building that used to house the j-school is now a construction site, where they gutted the building and are putting up a huge new complex around it. so the department has been scattered to the winds (actually two other buildings).

being in a small department in college is way cool... six years after I graduated, my old profs still remember me. it was good to see the old faces (if not the old places) again...

I've been trying to do a "farewell tour" of sorts before I head down to Massachusetts, say hi to the old haunts one more time before I leave town. even though i'll only be a few hours away from Montreal, the next time I'm here after the move will be different.

my brother-in-law sent me a copy of that cartoon the day it came out... he thought it resembled me for some odd reason. ;)

and as for what i'm doing now? uh... using my soft skills of communication and verbal abilities that I honed in j-school? (translation: my job has nothing to do with my education!)

In the fall of 1999 I saw Concordia's new Animation department. It's now in the building next to the Faubourg... an actual building of classes instead of just a part of a floor in an office one... director Mel Hoppenheim had donated a million bucks to the school to make a proper film school, and this was the official launch.

I re-met some of my teachers from back in the day, also a handful of people I went to school with.

yeah, the cinema school got a real shot in the arm from Hoppenheim's donation if I recall. good for them!
